Kano State leading in fight against corruption –  Yusuf

GOV. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State says the state is rated among the leading states in terms of fighting corruption across the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yusuf spoke on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a one-day anti-corruption symposium on the roles of law enforcement agencies in the fight against corruption.

The workshop was organized by Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, in conjunction with the State Police Command , held at the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Baffa Bichi, Yusuf said, ”My administration is not interfering, and will not interfere in the activities of the commission.

He said the present administration had inherited a lot of alleged corrupt cases from the immediate past administration.

Yusuf said that the workshop would enhance collaboration between the security agencies and the commission , adding, ” it is aimed at ensuring that the laws of the commission are fully enforced.

“Just yesterday, a Kano State High Court delivered a judgment in favour of the commission. The court ruled that the commission has the jurisdiction to investigate any alleged corrupt case in the state.”

In his remark, the chairman of the commission, Mr Muhyi Magaji, said the objectives of the symposium was to enhance synergy between it and the security agencies geared towards achieving the set objectives.

He vowed that the commission would not relent in the ongoing fight against corruption in the state.

Earlier , the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Usaini Gumel, said the command and other security agencies would continue to accord the necessary support to the commission to bolster the fight against corruption.

NAN reports that the workshop attracted participants from all the security agencies in the state.( NAN)
