THE Katsina state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has opposed the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) on the upcoming National Triennial Delegates Congress.

The chapter, during its congress on Tuesday in Katsina, stated that it strongly rejected the timing and venue of the Delegates Congress as picked by NEC.

It stated its opposition in a communique signed by Nasir Sani-Gide and Mannir Muhammad, state Chairman and Secretary respectively.

“The NEC members’ refusal to throw the choice of a venue open for any state willing to host the congress exposes their determination to truncate the will of the members.

“Therefore, the Katsina State Chapter aligns itself with the position of its Kano State counterparts in strongly rejecting not only the timing of the election, but also the venue chosen by the NEC members,” it said.

Katsina state SWAN pointed out that since the Rivers chapter hosted the last delegates congress, there was the need for fairness by allowing other states willing to host the upcoming congress to do so.

“We therefore demand a review of the entire election arrangements which will determine whether we are going to participate in the elections or not,” it stated in the communique.

Katsina state SWAN also commended the commitment of Gov. Aminu Masari in his giant strides in developing sports in the state.

It also acknowledged the state government’s support and contributions to Katsina United Football Club which have led to the club’s success so far in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL).

“We also congratulate the newly p-appointed Katsina United FC Chairman, Surajo Baba-Malumfashi, and the club as a whole for being the first NNL team to qualify for the league’s playoffs with two games to play.

“The association therefore charges the new Chairman to do everything possible to bring Katsina United FC back to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season,” Katsina state SWAN said in the communique.(NAN)
