Katsina State Government has started preparations to reconstruct Daura Central Market to enhance revenue generation and provide conducive trading environment for the people.
Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, the state’s Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism made this known when he paid an inspection visit to the market.
He said the decision followed formal complaint sent to the ministry by people of the community on the dilapidated nature of the market.
He added that Gov. Aminu Masari had directed the ministry to inspect and asses the situation on ground with a view to taking immediate action that would give the market a befitting status.
According to him, the ministry has since submitted recommendations to the government, stressing that “we will soon commence rebuilding the market.”
He explained that the market would be reconstructed and provided with spacious business environment for economic activities to thrive.
Alhaji Sani Mohammed, the officer in charge of the Daura Central Market, commended the decision of the state government for the proposed reconstruction.
He appealed for the erection of perimeter fence, shops, stores, public convenience and a Mosque in the market to provide comfort and convenience to those who patronise the facility.
He said the market attracts patronage from neighbouring local government areas and Niger Republic.
The Daura Central Market operates only on Wednesdays but it is grappling with poor infrastructure which needs urgent intervention.
