THE Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), has expressed delight at the re-election of Ms Adefunke Adeyemi as Secretary-General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AfCAC).
Keyamo made this known in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr Tunde Moshood, on Thursday.
According to him, Adeyemi’s re-election was announced during the 35th Ordinary Plenary Session of AfCAC in Brazzaville, Congo.
He said that Adeyemi won with 22 votes while her opponent secured seven votes, underscoring the trust and confidence of AFCAC member-states in her visionary leadership.
The minister said that the victory cemented Nigeria’s high status in the African aviation ecosystem.
He noted that he played a role in the re-election as he spearheaded strategic diplomatic engagements with African Union member-states, rallying support for Adeyemi’s candidacy.
Keyamo said: “This is not just a win for Nigeria but for the entire African aviation industry.
“Ms. Adeyemi’s outstanding leadership and innovative vision have positioned AfCAC to deliver transformative progress across the continent.
“Nigeria remains committed to driving the goals of AfCAC and ensuring the realisation of the Single African Air Transport Market,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, as a specialised agency of the African Union, AfCAC oversees civil aviation matters across the continent and serves as the executing body for the Yamassoukro Decision.
Its primary mandate includes implementing the Single African Air Transport Market, a vision uniting 37 member-states to enhance Africa’s aviation competitiveness and connectivity. (NAN)
