KAZAKHSTAN’S Central Election Commission (CEC) announced on Tuesday that the ruling Nur Otan party has won the parliamentary elections conducted on Sunday, grabbing 71.09 per cent of votes and 76 seats.
The Ak Zhol Democratic Party and the People’s Party of Kazakhstan secured 12 and 10 seats, respectively, in the Majilis, the lower house of the parliament.
The two parties won 10.95 per cent and 9.1 per cent of votes, respectively.
The Auyl Party and the Adal Party, however, did not pass the seven-percent threshold to enter parliament.
According to the CEC, a total of 7.5 million out of 11.9 million voters cast their ballots, with the voter turnout at 63 per cent.
The lower house consists of 107 deputies who serve a five-year term. Among them, 98 were elected directly from party lists during Sunday’s election.
The remaining nine were elected on Monday by the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, an advisory body representing the country’s major ethnic groups.
