THE Kano Community Commercial (KCCC) Old Boys and Girls Association, Class of 1980, have tasked the college old students to actively participate in the activities of the association to enhance the growth and development of their alma mater.
The members of the 1980 set of the old students made the call at a reunion luncheon held in Kano on Sunday.
A spokesman of the alumni, Danlami Garba, said the classmates came together to reunite and rekindle hope towards contributing their quota to the growth of the college and foster partnership among themselves.
Garba reminded the classmates that, the college is presently in a doldrum that requires urgent attention and assistance to ameliorate its problems.
He commended some members of the association who have assisted the college with facilities, including desks and chairs as well as renovated classrooms to boost learning.
Garba, who was one-time Permanent Secretary in Kano State Ministry of Education, also urged other members, individuals, public and private organisations to help the college to alleviate its challenges.
According to him, the present state of the college, which has been on for some years now should be of great concern to members, adding that every member has the responsibility to change the narrative for good.
He expressed the determination of the Class of 1980 members to return the institution to era of vibrancy, where various result-oriented activities would be organised for the benefit of members, the lecturers and students in general.
He, therefore, called on members to to always participate in reunion meetings and other activities to realize the objectives of the group.
Contributing, the former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, who is one of the convener of the meeting, called on the members to be committed to rescuing the college and also to stay in touch with one another.
Idris also advised members to use their contacts and connections to draw other members who might not be aware of the current move to return their alma mater to its past glory, for them to join the vanguard in accomplishing the mission.
The classmates agreed to hold meetings twice annually to appraise the college situation and further check on the well being of its members, other schoolmates as well as school authorities.
The famous college established in 1960s is currently facing infrastructural challenges as most of its land and buildings have either been encroached or dilapidated.
Also, worrisome is the poor funding of the college, among other administrative issues.
