THE gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi, retired Maj.-Gen. Aminu Bande has promised to establish a craft centre, to empower youth and tackle unemployment if elected.

He stated this at a media interrective session on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

The governorship hopeful said the “Craft Village” would be designed to accommodate and impart relevant skills to graduates, non graduates, craftsmen and artisants from different spheres of life.

He said: “The in-thing now in the world is skills acquisition, we must find a way of educating our children to acquire skills that they can take care of themselves without relying on government for job.

“They will learn everything there at the village from cookery; carpentering, engineering, technology, construction of plough, tractor repairs, vehicle maintenance among others. It’s a thing that everybody will be proud of”.

Bande said the craft centre when established would not only create job opportunities but would holistically engage the youths and transform them to become employers of labour.

He also promised to restructure the education system in the state to focus more on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development, to reduce the burden of over dependence on government for jobs.

The PDP flag-bearer advised traditional rulers in the state to remain neutral and accommodate all manner of people irrespective of party affiliations, noting that they were supposed to be fathers whom people would look up to.

Bande dismissed as misleading insinuations that, if elected governor, he would sack traditional rulers and senior civil servants, who participated in politics.

“There was never a time I pronounced such statement, this is just a political blackmail and character assassination”.

While appreciating the electorate across the state for coming out en mass to vote for the PDP, Bande also urged them to vote for its candidates at all levels in the March 11 elections.
