THE Kebbi Government has procured 20 sets of 500KVA transformers and begun repairs of 65 damaged ones for the upgrade of transmission lines in the state capital and rural areas.
Alhaji Yusuf Haruna-Rasheed, the Special Adviser to Gov. Atiku Bagudu on Electricity Matters, made this known while briefing newsmen at the flag-off of the repairs of the damaged transformers in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
Haruna-Rasheed explained that the transformers, when installed, would boost electricity supply and enable residents of the state to enjoy a 24-hour stable power supply.
“We have collaborated with the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and have taken the possession of the 65 damaged transformers and we are going to repair them to save the cost of spending huge amounts of money in purchasing new ones.
“We already procured 20 new transformers for the ongoing transmission line upgrade and the transformers are going to be installed in the state capital to ensure uninterrupted 24-hour power supply.
“A team of engineers and linesmen deployed by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Kebbi State Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Halisa Engineering Nigeria Ltd. are currently reconnecting aluminum conductors from 35mm2 to 100mms on the Gwadangaji Feeder 33KV line.
“They have also commenced the repairs of the 65 damaged transformers, all to ensure stable supply and energy balance for the benefit of electricity consumers.
“The feeder station supplies electricity to thousands of customers between the Government House and Gwadangaji area of the metropolis, where the replaced 35mm Aluminum conductors pose a serious concern to households and business premises,” he said.
Haruna-Rasheed said the development would minimise security concerns associated with the replaced conductors along the feeder transmission lines.
“We will also deploy our local engineers from the Rural Electricity Board (REB) to be trained by the KEDCO and Halisa engineers for onward repairs of our transformers in the event of damage to ensure sustained 24-hour electricity in the state,” he said.
Also speaking, Alhaji Bello Liman, the General Manager of the state Rural Electricity Board, confirmed the purchase of the new transformer.
Liman noted that the transformers would boost 24-hour electricity supply in the state.
“The 65 damaged transformers are going to be repaired by the state government under the supervision of my board and the office of the special adviser to Gov. Atiku Bagudu on electricity,” he said.
Liman urged the public to ensure proper maintenance of electricity via switching off their bulbs in daylight. (NAN)
