EMMANUEL Akingbade, a reverend father and Catholic priest who was kidnapped from his bedroom at the mission house at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Ido Ekiti, on Tuesday, June was freed after a week with his abductors. He regained his freedom on Tuesday, June 16.
Felix Ajakye, a reverend father and bishop of the Ekiti diocese, who confirmed the release told journalists that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers who had demanded N200 million for his release.
Also confirming the news, Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State,on media, said the clergy man had been released, but refused to say whether ransom was paid to abductors before his release.
The priest was abducted when three armed men stormed his residence at about 8:00pm that faithful Tuesday. Akingbade is the parish priest of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Ido Ekiti and the assistant director of the Justice, Development and Peace Initiative, JDPI, of the church in the diocese.
