THE Knights and Ladies of St. John International in Nigeria have donated N6 million to assist flood victims in the country.

This is contained in a letter to the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

The letter was signed by the Knights’ President Maj.-Gen. Remy Uche, Treasurer, Brig.-Gen. Solomon Obeakameh and Secretary, Brig.-Gen. Cletus Ntong.

The knights said that the donation would go to flood victims in six dioceses.

They expressed deep sympathy with all victims of the flood disaster.

“We very much appreciate their pains which visibly manifested in the loss of lives, valuable property and displacement of abode.

“The Federal Government should declare this ugly occurrence as a national disaster and muster appropriate action to cushion the ravaging effects,’’ the Knights added.

They also advised the government to seek for help from the international community and organisations.

”Besides seeking for aids, the distinguished body of Catholics also urged the federal government of Nigeria to seek for ways and means to forestall future occurrence,’’ the Knights added. (NAN)
