Kwara govt assures HFN of support for handball tournament

GOV. AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman of Kwara has assured the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) of his administration’s readiness to support in the forthcoming handball competition billed to commence in Ilorin on March 18.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, gave the assurance on Wednesday in Ilorin while receiving representatives of
Alabi assured that the renovation of the handball court at the Kwara State Sports Stadium in Ilorin would be completed and all facilities installed ahead of the competition’s commencement.
”I hereby call for discipline and for the athletes to observe all COVID-19 protocols. There is also a prohibition of movement within Ilorin in order to ensure we put under control the possibility of spreading the coronavirus,” he said.
The HFN President, Samuel Ocheho, appreciated the government for its support for handball, noting the great work done on the handball court at the Kwara Stadium.
He also commended the government for hosting the handball competition in 2019 and implored it to put a Local Organising Committee (LOC) in place for a successful outing.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Iyabo Banire, also commended the governor for his efforts at developing the sports sector.
She assured the association that the necessary logistics were already in place, especially renovation of the handball court for the forthcoming championship.
