Gov. Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has inaugurated a special probe panel to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the Gana/Ganmo chieftaincy tussle, and make recommendations on peaceful resolution of the crisis.

AbdulRazaq was represented at the inauguration on Saturday in Ilorin by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Alabere.

The governor charged members of the panel to carry out the assignment with all the seriousness it deserved.

He disclosed that the chieftaincy tussle had been lingering between the two communities for over a decade, adding that as a responsive government it is necessary to look into the issues surrounding the conflict with a view to finding lasting solution to it.

He added that it was only through peaceful co-existence that development can reach the two communities.

“The panel has two weeks to submit its report. It is my believe that you are going to use your wealth of experience to work within the time frame and justify the confidence reposed in you by this appointment.

“The terms of reference of the probe panel are: To look into the remote and immediate causes of the chieftaincy tussle.

“To determine the genuine and sincere claims of each of the factions to the throne.

“To make recommendations to His Excellency on the position of Law on the matter.

“To make suggestions and recommendations on peaceful resolution of the chieftaincy tussle.

“To make any other useful step to be taken to avoid future occurrences,” he said.

The six-man probe panel has Justice Ibrahim Yusuf as Chairman, while Mallam Abdul Mao Muhammed, Director, Chieftaincy Affairs, would serve as Secretary.

Other members are Prof. AbdulRauf Hambali, Mr Abdulkadir Daib, Mr Aina Johnson and Mr Issa Raji.

Responding on behalf of panel members, Yusuf appreciated the governor for the confidence reposed in them.

He assured that they would discharge their responsibilities with the fear of God and abide by the terms of reference given to them.
