THE Kwara Government has expressed its resolve to promote sports, tourism and facilities across the stated for the benefit of the people.

The state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, made this known on Friday in Ilorin while inspecting some facilities.

Ogunshola said the measure was to such facilities, including the Swimming Pool at the state stadium, attractive for public patronage.

The commissioner was accompanied by top officials of the ministry, including the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Kayode Wahab.

He noted that the swimming pool, if properly taken care of, would generate revenue for the government.

He said Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has done so well in terms of facilities not just to engage the youths, but as Sports being globally a big business and the youths, if properly looked after, could be nurtured to Olympics stage.

The Executive Chairman of the state Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji, said the commission needed supply of water from the Water Corporation as it is the only thing that can help in addition with industrial borehole.

Mogaji explained that the swimming pool must not get dried during the dry season particularly the diving pool, otherwise it would be back to square one.

He said in Nigeria, there are only two pools like this as it used to be Olympics camp in the 80s, but with the breakdown of some things, it was no longer considered for Olympics camp.

At the Squash and the Table Tennis courts which are near completion, Ogunsola advised the consultants and engineers at the sites to ensure that knowledgeable workers are employed to ensure good finishing. (NAN)
