PROF. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin (Unilorin), has commended the Surveyors Association in Kwara for their support toward the development of the institution’s Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the groups include the Kwara State Chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors and Association of Private Practising Surveyors of Nigeria (NIS/APPSN), Kwara branch
Egbewole, represented by Prof. Olubunmi Omotesho, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), made the commendation on Sunday in Ilorin while receiving some equipment donated by the groups to the Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics.
He said that the donated items, which comprised 25 ranging poles, five compasses, five 50m tape and 10-100m tape, would go a long way in assisting the department and the university to offer effective service delivery to the students.
According to him, the two bodies have demonstrated a deep sense of magnanimity and expertise, by giving priority to the future of the surveying profession in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
Egbewole assured that the institution would continue to do more to ensure that the quality standard of the department was maintained and enhance its growth.
He added that the NIS had taken ownership of the Surveying and Geo-informatics Department of the university, with an uncommon sense of generosity.
The vice chancellor therefore urged the NIS to continue to nurture and support the department in a bid to attain higher heights among its counterparts in other institutions of learning in the country.
According to him, the university will continue to collaborate with the NIS for optimal performance.
Earlier, Mr Yomi Bobadoye, the Team Lead of the NIS/APPSN, said that the donation of the survey equipment to the university was to enhance the training of the students and staff of the department.
He added that the institution and the association had deemed it fit to contribute their quota to the development of the profession in the state as a responsible body.
According to him, the survival of the programme in the university will advance survey training and re-training, by those that are already into practice, but would love to further their education.
The team lead, however, requested the management of the institution to consider the use of the environment professionals in the execution of projects within the university.
He explained that such would encourage and give them the opportunity for practical experience, enhancing student learning and contribute to the overall development of the institution.
On his part, Mr Ademuyiwa Ijadeola, the Coordinator of the Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics of the university, commended the groups for the gesture and promised to make adequate use of the equipment for the purpose of learning. (NAN)
