THE Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups has attributed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL’s) achievements to the capacity of its Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Malam Mele Kyari, to transform the company.

Its Director-General, Prof. Kailani Muhammed, who said this on Wednesday at a news conference in Abuja, said Kyari significantly transformed NNPCL from loss-making entity to a highly profitable organisation.

Muhammed lauded the NNPCL’s substantial progress achieved in the oil and gas sector under Kyari’s leadership, which had introduced a new level of transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

According to him, today marks a turning point for Nigeria’s petroleum industry as Malam Mele Kyari, as GCEO, continues to steer NNPCL in alignment with global energy practices.

The APC group boss said Kyari broke a 43-year record by publishing NNPC’s Audited Financial Statements in 2018, followed by substantial loss reduction and a declaration of profit.

“Kyari played a pivotal role in passing the long-awaited Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), addressing long-standing obstacles in the sector.

“Under Kyari’s leadership, NNPCL has pursued extensive exploration in northern Nigeria, expanding gas reserves and enhancing the nation’s energy security.

“The Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline are part of his legacy, fostering national integration and economic development.

“NNPCL’s acquisition of OVH Energy positions it as Africa’s largest petroleum retailer, leveraging regional partnerships to strengthen Nigeria’s presence in the energy market.”

Muhammed added that Kyari’s focus on local refining and collaboration with security agencies to combat oil theft demonstrated his commitment to stabilising the industry and ensuring sustainable growth.

“Through advanced surveillance and control systems, NNPCL has made significant strides in curbing oil theft and pipeline vandalism, with recovered assets valued at millions.

“The Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant project, another landmark achievement, represents a major step forward in Nigeria’s power sector. This project is anticipated to generate up to 800 million dollars annually and contributes to Nigeria’s economic diversification goals.

“The achievements under Kyari’s leadership are a reflection of the confidence President Bola Tinubu has in his capacity to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda forward.”

He appealed to all relevant stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to support Kyari’s initiatives and cooperate with NNPCL’s transformative efforts. (NAN)
