Labourer docked for allegedly stealing 10 bags of cement

A 22-year-old labourer, Samuel Victor, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Kaduna for allegedly stealing 10 bags of cement.

Victor, who resides in Ungwan Sarki area of Kaduna, is standing trial for theft.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo told the court that Adebiyi Adebayo of Kawo, Kaduna reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on Oct. 5.

Leo said the defendant, who worked in the complainant’s construction site, was given 50 bags of cement to work with and he stole 10 bags worth N58,000.

He added that the defendant was later apprehended after a police investigation.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Alex James, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms, saying the offence was a bailable one, and pledged that Victor would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Emmanuel added that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, be a relation of the defendant, as well as provide two recent passport photographs of himself and that of the defendant.

He adjourned the case until Nov. 15, for hearing.(NAN)
