Labourer docked for allegedly stealing 3 bags of rice, N350,000

A 22-year-old labourer, Danladi Usman, was on Wednesday docked in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three bags of rice and N350,000 cash.
Usman, who resides in Kawo area of Kaduna, is charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 19, at Kawo Market, Kaduna.
He said that the defendant and two others at large, stole four bags of rice valued at N392,000 and cash sum of N350,000 property of Sadiq Haruna.
The prosecutor added that the defendant was caught in the act and handed over to the police while his accomplices ran away.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 233 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
Section 233 prescribe three jail term if found guilty while section 217 prescribe five year jail term if found guilty.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the sureties should furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He adjourned the matter until Oct. 21, for hearing. (NAN)
