THE Lagos Central Business Districts (CBD) has been recognized and registered as a member of the International Downtown Association, based in Arizona United State of America, which promotes vital and habitable urban centers by providing support to business improvement districts and communities.
Agboola Dabiri, special adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on CBD, who disclosed this at the Y2016 Ministerial Press briefing of the State Government in commemoration of the first year in office of Governor Ambode, stated that the feat makes Lagos the third CBD to be registered in the whole of Africa after Kenya and South Africa.
He pointed out that the international recognition is the result of the irrefutable efforts of the present administration turning the Agency around for the better, through the commitment of enormous resources and support for the CBD’s activities and programmes.
In his words “This particular recognition will not only open up Lagos for enormous business opportunities but also provide a good platform for effective partnership and vital experience sharing that will ultimately take it to the next level business-wise, as envisaged by the State Government.”
“Lagos CBD now has a platform to meet other CBDs worldwide, share experience and collaborate with them towards attaining necessary International Standard.”
He added that it will also create room for exchange of programmes, summit, conferences, seminars, information sharing and consultancy or a platform for international organizations that want to do business with the State or the Country as a whole.
While noting that with the international recognition, the State CBD is opened to partnership from over 2000 members on the list of the international body, Dabiri hinted that some companies/ organizations such as New London CBD in United Kingdom (UK), Lebanese and Syrian clubs in Lagos have started to indicate their interest to work with the state through the exchange of working tools essential for the progress and development of the Agency.
He revealed that the New London CBD is donating two new ambulances to effectively tackle emergency health situations, while the Lebanese and Syrian clubs in Lagos are willing to renovate the popular Ago Tower at Idumota, which was constructed in 1905 and has been out of service for decades.
