LAGOS State Government on Monday distributed work tools to its workers living with disability to enable them to discharge their duties more effectively and independently.
The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), which made the distribution, appealed to the beneficiaries not to sell the tools but use them for the intended purpose.
LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs Adenike Oyetund-Lawal, made the appeal during the distribution in Ikeja.
“Today, we are presenting 23 laptops, nine laptops with speech-assisted software (Freedom Scientific Version 2024) for our visually-impaired persons, calipers, prosthetics, and motorised wheelchairs.
“These work tools are more than just equipment, they are enablers of efficiency, confidence and dignity.
“With these tools, our colleagues with disabilities will not only perform their tasks with ease but will also contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Lagos State.
” I urge you to utilise these tools responsibly and optimally. You requested for them, and today, we are handing them over to you; do not sell them, the tools are to enhance your productivity,” she said.
Oyetund-Lawal said that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration was a responsive government.
” We received multiple requests from our civil servants with disabilities, seeking work tools to enable them to carry out their responsibilities.
” These requests have highlighted the need for adequate assistive devices to ensure that our colleagues with disabilities can perform their duties effectively and independently.
“We extend our profound gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its unwavering commitment to disability inclusion.
“We remain dedicated to promoting equal opportunities, and we will continue to advocate a more inclusive Lagos,” Oyetund-Lawal said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a non-governmental organisation, Diamond Home, was recognised at the event for taking care of children with disabilities.
The Founder, Mrs Ajoke Bello, was given three electronic wheelchairs in appreciation of her efforts. (NAN)
