THE police in Lagos on Thursday brought a 38-year-old driver, Tosin Awosanya, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly knocking down a pedestrian and causing her death.

The defendant, who resides at No. 13 Busare St., off AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos, is being tried for reckless driving, causing the death of a pedestrian, and driving without a licence.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on November 13, 2023, at Ajala Bus Stop, Abule Egba Road, Lagos.

Akeem alleged that the defendant drove recklessly and knocked down a pedestrian, one Gloria Eberechukwu, 55, and she died instantly.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 51, 52, and 111 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2018.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Feb. 5 for mention.
