The devastating explosion, which was reported to have also shaken Abule Ado’s neighboring towns, such as FESTAC Town, Satellite Town, Okota, Ijegun, Ajao Estate and so on, was said to have claimed several lives, including the lives of the Principal of Bethlehem Girls College, Rev. Sis. Henrietta Alokha and some of her students. What a calamity!
It expressed their heartfelt sympathy to the Abule Ado Community, the Government of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, the Lagos State Government and to the families of the victims of this disaster. “May the Almighty receive, in His bosom, the souls of all those, who perished in this tragic incident. Amen!,’’ the group said.
In a statement issued by Major-General Obi Abel Umahi and Chief Chuma Igwe, President General and Secretary General respectively of the group noted that insinuations of all kinds as to the cause of the explosion are coming from various quarters.
“However, we, at Ndigbo Lagos, want to use this medium to call on the Lagos State Government and the Government of the Federation, to as a matter of urgency, take necessary steps to address the urgent welfare needs of the survivors.
“It is equally expected that appropriate authorities should quickly institute an inquiry into this ugly incident with a view to unraveling the cause of the explosion and more importantly, put measures in place to ensure that such tragedy does not happen again,’’ the group said.
