LAGOS State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, has won the prestigious Africa Housing Awards’ Physical Planning Commissioner of the Year 2024.
The award was conferred on Olumide during the Africa Housing Awards and End of Year Dinner, at the Musa Yar’ Adua Centre, Abuja, on Dec. 14.
The Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the ministry, Mr Mukaila Sanusi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
Sanusi said that the award, the sixth edition, was organised by an international non-governmental organisation, the Housing Development Advocacy Network.
Sanusi said that the award recognised Olumide’s contributions to shaping Lagos State’s urban landscape, including hosting the Lagos State Physical Planning Summit 2024.
He quoted Olumide as saying that the award was a testimony to the impactful governance of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in Lagos State, as well as motivation to do more.
Sanusi noted that the organisation, dedicated to advancing affordable housing and housing development and innovation, recognised organisations and individuals who made outstanding contributions to promoting housing and urban development.
He also quoted the Coordinator of the Africa Housing Awards 2024, Mr Festus Adebayo, as saying that Olumide won the Physical Planning Commissioner of the Year Award for being instrumental to shaping Lagos State’s urban landscape through the successful hosting of the maiden Lagos State Physical Planning Summit 2024.
According to Sanusi, Adebayo said that the summit birthed innovative ideas, implementation of sustainable development plans, improvement of urban infrastructure, and collaboration with stakeholders.
He mentioned the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Kano State, Mr AbdulJabbar Umar; Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ogun State, Olatunji Odunlami; and Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Rivers State, Prince Isaac Umejuru; as other nominees.
He said that the award served as motivation for Olumide to continue advancing physical planning and urban development in Lagos State. (NAN
