THE Lagos residence of Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has been razed by fire.
According to local media reports on Wednesday, the fire, which began from the roof top burned down the entire building.
The reports quoted the family members as saying that the fire began after a strange noise was heard from the roof, which they thought was caused by foraging domestic animals in the house.
“However, the structure burst in flames within minutes, leaving the occupants with little alternative but to flee for their lives, leaving everything behind.
“Despite the quick response of the local community and fire departments, the structure and everything in it could not be salvaged.
Reacting to the news of the inferno, Ajaero, who was away in Geneva at the time of the incidence, expressed appreciation to God that no lives were lost.
The reports stated that Ajaero believed that the fire incident could be connected with his job, but he refrained from commenting on potential perpetrators.
It will be recalled that the Ajaero-led NLC had called for a nationwide strike, following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
Although the strike was later suspended, following interventions and negotiations by the Federal Government, the NLC has continued to maintain its position that the statuesque should be maintained until the government provides the modalities that could cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy on petrol.
The NLC is also vehemently opposed to the planned hike in electricity tariff.
