LAGOS State Electricity Board, LSEB, in conjunction with the Department for International Development, DFID, has commenced a 10-day training programme on Operation and Maintenance of Lagos Solar Project for Public Schools and Primary Health Centres, PHCs, in the State.
Olawole Oluwo, commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, at the opening of the training programme said that 172 flagship schools and 11 rural Primary Health Centres PHCS, in Lagos have been picked as beneficiaries for the solar project, which would result in improved services in the institution and creation of more than 3,000 jobs in the supply chain.
He said that presently, Solar Power Systems have already been installed in 32 government schools and Epe Primary Health Centre by engineers trained by LSEB in the first phase of the Lagos Solar Project to provide the public institutions with reliable, pollution-free power and lighting at lower cost than fuel-burning generators.
Oluwo however implored the beneficiaries of the solar systems to take ownership and protect them in order to encourage government to do more.
Earlier, Adebayo Adelakun of ENERTECH LTD, facilitator of the training programme said,the primary objective of the exercise is to keep installations running by managing all sorts of alarm in the system, reduce economic losses in the institutions and improve power supply through their sustainability and regular maintenance.
While noting that the training would be done in the class as well as on the site and will involve more than 30 engineers and technicians, Adelakun disclosed that the timing for the commencement of the programme is auspicious because this is the period when the weather poses most challenge to solar installations.
