Lagos Targets World Cup Spot for Super Sand Eagles

KWEKU Tandoh, co-chairman, Local Organising Committee for the CAF Beach Nations Cup Lagos 2016, has said that the major reason the Lagos State Government is hosting the tournament is to help the the Super Sand Eagles qualify for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas.
The competition, which began on Tuesday, December 13, at the Eko Atlantic City, ends on Sunday, December 18, at the same venue. “We are not just hosting Africa, but will be out to help motivate and encourage the national team to pick a ticket to play at the Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas in 2017.
“We have been having the stands filled up, despite the fact that they are working days. More importantly, I am happy that CAF officials are impressed with the facilities, logistics and other things we have put in place for the success of the competition. We also have a tourism package for the players and officials on Friday, a match-free day, where they would be taken on bus tours and boat cruise across Lagos.”
Tandoh stated that CAF instructed that the Lagos entertainment group, which presented the Eyo masquerade dance, should work with the official cheer leaders from the Bahamas to make the event more entertaining. “They have asked that they rehearse and perform together for a joint entertainment.”
