ABDUL-HAKEEM Abdul-Lateef, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, during a recent meeting at the Conference Room of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, charged the 18 appointed Missioners of the Hajj Coordinating Zones across the state to be of good conduct and brace up to the challenges ahead of this year’s hajj operation.
The missioners are expected to represent the interest of other pilgrims as well as work for the interest of the Lagos State Government in the cause of performing this year’s hajj. “You are expected to be diligent, respectful, patient and enduring in playing the role of a Missioner because you will be tempted to misbehave sometimes, please remember Allah”, he advised.
He then sensitised the missioners on their roles as ambassadors of the state government throughout the hajj period, while reiterating the commitment and determination of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration to give the Missioners the expected support to excel in their assigned duties in making this year’s hajj a success.
Abdul-Lateef enjoined these missioners to have the fear of God in carrying out their responsibilities and then used the opportunity to call on pilgrims who are yet to fulfil all obligations to do so in order to benefit from the welfare packages outlined for the Y2016 Hajj operations.
He further urged the pilgrims to take good care of their health, adding that they should take their medications according to doctors’ prescription and emphasised the need to present such medications to the accredited medical team to avoid any complication during the forthcoming hajj operation.
Abdul-Lateef disclosed that arrangements have been concluded with Lagos State Health Officials who are also hajj pilgrims, as well as Lagos State Government Medical Team to assist in giving first aid treatment to pilgrims during the hajj operation.
The Commissioner also called upon Y2015 pilgrims who are yet to collect refunds in respect of the ongoing refund exercise to come forward with their documents, adding that a total of 2, 885 Cheques have been collected so far out of the 3,047 beneficiaries.
