THE Executive Secretary of Lagos State Technical and Vocational Board, LASTVEB, Engineer Olawunmi Gasper has advocated the need for increased human skills development as a sustainable way to wealth creation and eradication of poverty.
Engr. Gasper made this known at the award ceremony for LASTVEB Teachers, Instructors and Principals of technical colleges across the State who distinguished themselves in their various duty posts in the Year 2015.
“Discussions on skills development has taken centre stage of public discourse in recent time as stakeholders in the skilled sector have identified technical vocations as the most reliable path to follow, considering the present financial situation of the country and the rate of dependency on paid jobs,” he averred.
The Executive Secretary maintained that the high point of the recently concluded Wealth Creation Summit in the State, focused on the indispensability of skills acquisition and vocational education which further underscored the importance of the task being undertaken by LASTVEB.
“LASTVEB has received recognition from within and outside the country for its contributions to the development of human skills, all these are testimonials that we are doing it right and our impact is being felt,” he added.
Engr. Gasper urged the awardees not to relent in their dedication to duty but see the award as a challenge that would spur them to improve their commitment and dedication in their various duty posts.
The Most Outstanding Principal Awardee, Mrs. Odeh Oruonye Belinda who responded on behalf of other awardees challenged her colleagues in other technical colleges to prevail on other members of staff for better performance so that they could also receive similar recognition in future.
She described the entire screening process as fair, thorough and transparent, adding that everyone was given equal opportunity in the keenly contested evaluation process.
