Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Bill scales second reading at Lagos Assembly

A bill seeking f a law to establish  Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy has scaled second reading on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy is a programme that aims to build skills, awareness, and a nuanced perspective among young people to tackle challenges in various fields ,including the public sector.

At a plenary on Thursday, the Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, committed the bill to the committee on education for further action.

The Seaker (Agege I – APC) said that the bill, if passed into law, would further broaden the educational focus of the state.

He said: “The bill if passed will offer first-hand experience into the process of governance at the state government level.

“Fellows will also participate in roundtable discussions with renowned leaders from both the public and private sectors and partake in domestic and international policy trips.” he said.

Commenting, the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Adedamola Kasunmu (Ikeja II – APC) said the bill would create educational models that would boost legislative and executive experience in the state.

Kasunmu expressed optimism that the academy would boost the education-drive of the state and help to nurture future generations.

His colleague, Mr Femi Saheed, added: “If the law is passed, it is going to serve as a customised leadership academy that will grow our youths culturally, socially and academically.”

Saheed (Kosofe II – APC) said the academy would strengthen the feedback mechanism in the state.

Another lawmaker, Mr Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa I – APC) ,said the bill was  confirmation of the government’s efforts to build leaders with extra knowledge and problem-solving skills.

Describing it as a good innovation, he advised against elitist influences and marginalisation in the registration process of candidates when the bill eventually becomes a law.

Also, Mr Aro Moshood (Ikorodu II – APC), describing the bill as a forward-looking, however suggested that additional focus should be on innovations in technology and their applications in leadership positions and activities. (NAN)
