Lawmaker pays WAEC, tuition fees for 120 outstanding students in Kwara

MRS Arinola Lawal, the Lawmaker representing Ilorin East Constituency at Kwara House of Assembly, said she has commenced the payment of WAEC and tuition fees for 120 outstanding students in her constituency.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Lawal on Wednesday in Ilorin.

She said that the payment of WAEC fees was in a bid to empower and uplift the educational prospects of youths in her constituency.

She said the initiative of the scholarship, undertaken through the Mohammed Lawal Foundation and scholarships, were awarded to 120 outstanding students in the constituency on Oct. 1, 2023.

The noble venture is part of her commitment to fostering education and reducing the number of out-of-school children in the local government.

“The payments began on Jan. 15, 2024, starting with five prominent schools in the region, which include St. James, CAC Secondary School, Sheikh AbdulSalam Secondary School and United School Secondary.

“Other schools are GDSS Fate; Government Secondary School, Fate; St. Anthony Senior Secondary School; Cherubim and Seraphim College, Sabo-Oke Ilorin; G.G.S.S – Oke-Suna, Ilorin; G.D.S.S Oja-Gboro, Ilorin; and Burhanudeen Senior Secondary School, Oja-Gboro Ilorin.

“I believe this scholarship programme will contribute significantly to reducing the number of out-of-school children in the local government.

“It is a step towards empowering our youths to pursue their educational aspirations and dreams,” she said. (NAN)
