REP. Aminu Jaji (APC-Zamfara), has trained 200 social media handlers on political reporting, privacy and ethical principles and content analysis for development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-day training was organised by the lawmakers’ media office in collaboration with Media and Publicity Consult (MPC) an NGO.

The theme for the training is: “Social Media as Catalyst for Peace and Societal Development.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Monday in Gusau, Jaji, representing Birnin-Magaji/Kaura Namoda federal constituency, said the event was part of his contribution to support youths in peace building.

The lawmaker, represented by the former Chairman, Birnin-Magaji Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Umar, said the event aimed to educate the participants on how to use social media in promoting peace and development in Zamfara and Nigeria as a whole.

“This is timely considering the large number of the participants willing to participate in this training.

“This is one of our projects to sensitise our youths on social media handling and enhancing peace and stability in the society.

“I am using this medium to appeal to the participants to utilise all the knowledge acquired from the training,” Jaji pleaded.

Also speaking, the Chairman Jaji Coordinating Committee, Aliyu Abubakar said youths as leaders of tomorrow, should avoid dissemination of hate speeches capable of causing instability in the society.

Aliyu advised them to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired towards addressing dangers of misleading information.

Also speaking, Jamilu Iliyasu, a visiting lecturer of Mass Communication Department, Zamfara College of Art and Sciences (ZACAS), urged the participants to be law abiding.

Iliyasu stressed the need for the participants to acquire basic knowledge on dangers of social media posting capable of causing violence in the society. (NAN)
