Let’s stand up for the girl child — Lagos APC Chairman

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos on Tuesday called on governments and well meaning Nigerians to stand up for the girl child in the country.
APC Chairman in the state, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, made the call in a statement to commemorate the 2022 International Day of the Girl Child.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated worldwide on Oct. 11 and the theme of this year’s celebration is “Our Time Is Now – Our Rights, Our Future.”
“On this day, l want us all to raise awareness about the importance of equal opportunities for our girls, girls’ health, girls’ safety as well as girls’ protection.
“We know that our girls have more potentials and prospects than the world realises.
“Therefore, we all must stand up to raise a voice for the girl child in a world where their existence is being threatened,” Ojelabi said.
According to him, for so long, the girl child has faced discrimination.
He said that It had been long that they had been suffering from certain deprivations.
“Thus, let us now get their honour back so as to put a permanent smile on their faces.
“And while we continue to advocate for the rights of girls, I will urge every girl child to brace up and do more to compete favourably with their peers across the globe.
“On behalf of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos State Chapter, I say Happy International Day of the Girl Child to you all my princesses,” he said. (NAN)
