THE Civil Liberties Organization Anambra State Branch has reiterated its earlier appeals to Gov. Charles Soludo and Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission to reconsider Local Government Election in the state slated for September 28th to ensure massive participation of citizens, contestants, political parties and politicians.

The CLO is of the school of thought that one month, two weeks is too short to plan and conduct credible, free, fair and generally acceptable election, unless if it is to merely to fulfill all righteousness.

It will be recalled that Civil Society Organization’s played indispensable roles and made selfless sacrifices towards enthronement of current democracy dispensation. Pertinently, relentless efforts should be made to safeguard, protects and defend it.

It is irrefutable truth and existential reality that less than 20 per cent of the citizens are aware of the election and ANSIEC has not provided enough publicity and information in respect of the election. In view of people’s lost of confidence in the electoral process as a result of outcome of last year presidential election.

The electoral umpire should embark on aggressive campaign for confidence and trust building and ensure and convinced the electorate that their votes must count.

The election should bear all ingredients of democracy and democratic culture for the outcome to reflect wishes and aspirations of majority of the electorate.

The electoral umpire should be unbiased, impartial and neutral in the discharge of their duties and ensure level playing ground for all aspirants, contestants, politicians and political parties.
