THE Action Alliance (AA) has advised the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to allow votes to count in the July 24 Local Government elections.

The Chairperson of the party, Chief Abiola Adeyemi, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.

Adeyemi said that the outcomes of the chairmanship and councillorship polls “must reflect the will and wishes of the electorate”.

Adeyemi hinted that AA would contest in only 11 seats in the election across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state

She added that the fortune of the party and other opposition parties was tied to the credibility of the poll.

“Our advice to LASIEC is to ensure proper conduct of the election by ensuring equity, fairness and level playing ground for all political parties,’’ she said.

According to her, local government elections are generally known to be lacking in credibility but Lagos State can set the pace for a free, fair and credible election at the grassroots.

She said that a situation where the ruling party would win all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in a state has put a question mark on such poll.

Adeyemi said that Lagos residents should expect a better future if they vote for AA, noting that the party valued masses and appreciated people and their opinions.

“AA is a masses’ party. Our slogan is ‘Let the masses live’.

“We have been advocating for generational shift in governance at all levels.

“The masses must be allowed to live proper and just lives,’’ she added.

Adeyemi said that the party had set machinery in place to ensure victory for its candidates contesting in the polls.

NAN reports that the party is contesting only the Igando-Ikotun LCDA chairmanship seat and 10 councillorship seats in Lagos Island Local Government, Igando-Ikotun LCDA and Olorunda LCDA.

In Igando-Ikotun LCDA, AA is contesting in Wards A, B, C, D, E, F and G; in Lagos Island Local Government, it is contesting in Ward F and G while in Olorunda LCDA, it is contesting only in Ward E. (NAN)
