LG polls: Nasarawa stakeholders say zoning promotes peace, inclusiveness

SOME stakeholders in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have said that zoning in political arrangements help to promote inclusiveness, peace and stability.

They lauded the Speaker of the state legislature, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, on his stand on zoning for the area’s Chairmanship seat any time the state is set for local council elections.

The stakeholders noted that the recent pronouncement by the speaker would give room for fair play, enhance peace, unity, political harmony and inclusiveness amongst communities in the area.

Mr Madaki Goje, a former member representing Toto/Gadabuke constituency, made the commendation on Monday while speaking with newsmen in Toto, Toto Local Government Area of the state.

Goje described the pronouncement by the speaker as heartwarming and the best political initiative and strategy so far in the area by any political head that would give room for political harmony and mass participation in politics by the people.

“This is a welcome development, we commend Mr Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, for this initiative because it will bring peace and unity among our people and everyone will be carried along in the scheme of things.

“I also want to appreciate the speaker for his leadership style because he is working in harmony with the governor which is also helping greatly in bringing peace to our local government by addressing the security challenges we are facing.

“And it is on this note that I call on our people to give him the maximum support to succeed and we should to continue to remain peaceful and committed to constituted authorities,” Goje said.

The former lawmaker also called on the people of the area and the state at large to support Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration and other leaders to succeed.

Also speaking, Mr Salihu Rosi, a former Sole Administrator,  Gadabuke Development Area, said the speaker has with this move written his name in gold as history would continue to remember him positively.

“The people of Toto local government area have never had it so good like what we are witnessing under the leadership of Speaker Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi whose aimed is all about Toto first.

“What he has done as our leader so far shows the level of love he has for our people, we are solidly behind him,” he said.

He urged the speaker to continue to build on the solid foundation he has put in place so far in the interest of peace and for the overall  development of the area and the state at large.

On his part, Alhaji Jibrin Maiwada-Jojisa, two term aspirant for Toto/ Gadabuke state assembly constituency, who expressed joy with the zoning arrangement, also said it will bring political harmony and mass participation in politics among the people of the area.

“You will see the number of votes that will come from Toto L.G.A in 2023, this is because Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi has stabilised political system among our people.

“The atmosphere is getting cooler and more interesting, we salute the speaker, he is a good leader to work with,” he said.

The stakeholders have called on the people of the local government to continue to remain law abiding and support Gov. Abdullahi Sule and  the speaker to deliver more democratic dividends.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on May 14, the speaker made the pronouncement when different individuals and groups paid him Sallah homage.

Abdullahi declared that zoning policy would be adopted any time the state was set for the conduct of local government election.

Toto local government area comprised three zones of Toto, Gadabuke and Umaisha.
