LG Tussle: History will vindicate us- Oyo ALGON

THE Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State Chapter, has expressed optimism that history would vindicate them in their legal tussle with Oyo State Government.
This is contained in a statement, signed by its Chairman, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the ALGON in the state comprises of the democratically-elected local government executives, dissolved by the Gov. Seyi Makinde-led administration.
NAN reports that the legal tussle was instituted by the elected council executives against the Makinde-led administration over their dissolution, one year into their three-year term.
The ALGON had reacted following the pronouncement of a Supreme Court sitting in Abuja which reserved its judgment in the suit till May 7.
“As a body that believes in the rule of law, we have painstakingly followed this line of honor till date and in due course, history will vindicate us,” it said.
The association urged its members, party faithful, and the society at large to be patient and wait for the final pronouncements of the Apex Court on this matter.
It said that the Supreme Court on similar cases held that no governor of a state can remove democratically-elected council chairmen and Councilors.
“We believe that our case will not be an exception. The rule of law shall prevail and we shall triumph at the end of the day.
“It is not how soon or how long but how fair or good. We stand on the side of posterity,” the ALGON said. (NAN)
