RESIDENTS of seven communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State have benefited from the N1.2 million palliatives donated by some chapters of Rotary Club International in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution of the food items which was tagged, “COVID-19 Rotary Community Intervention,” took place at different locations in the state.

Presenting the food items to the residents of Sauna-Kawaji in Nasarawa local government area, the North West Coordinator of the club, Barr. Nureini Jimoh, said the gesture was to assist those in need.

According to Jimoh, the aim was to cushion the hardship occasioned by COVID-19 lockdown in the state.

He added that the donation of the food items which included rice, sugar and millet was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to their host communities.

Jimoh said: “At this trying period, there is the need for individuals and corporate bodies to assist those in need in our communities so as to make them feel being among.

“We also advise residents to always abide by the rule of social distancing and use of face masks. Also, you are advised to avoid visitation to help stop the spread of the virus.”

While calling on them to make proper use of the items, Jimoh advised the beneficiaries to continue to support the club, especially by presenting their children for polio immunisation.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the village head of Sauna-Kawaji, Malam Umar Adamu, commended Rotary Club for its kind gesture.

According to him, the foodstuffs came at a time when the people were stranded at home and in dire need of such assistance to reduce the hardship caused by the lockdown.

Adamu assured the Rotarians that he would do everything within his ability to ensure that the people continued to give the club all the necessary support. (NAN)
