Magashi commends Armed Forces for defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity

FORMER Minister of Defence Retired Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi, has hailed the Armed Forces of Nigeria for standing firm in defence of the nation.

This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mrs Victoria Agba-Attah, Director, Press and Public Relations in the ministry.

Magashi gave the commendation when he handed over the affairs of the ministry to the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Kana.

He appreciated the support of the permanent secretary, directors, staff and ministerial aides for his eventful, peaceful and successful four-year tenure of office.

“I appreciate the massive support of C-in-C, the cooperation of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Leo Irabor and other Service Chiefs and their patriotic services in defending the nation’s territorial integrity under my supervision,” he said.

Magashi urged the directors and staff to cooperate with the permanent secretary who would oversee the ministry till a new minister was appointed.

In his response, Kana, congratulated the minister for successfully concluding his tour of duty and wished him God’s protection at all times.

He thanked the minister for repositioning the ministry and leaving it better than it was four years ago.

Magashi assumed office on Aug. 21, 2019 as the 24th Chief Executive of the ministry.

Meanwhile, documents containing details of the former minister’s stewardships were formally signed and handed over to the permanent secretary.

The ceremony was witnessed by management staff, and military and civilian aides of the former defence minister. (NAN)
