Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa assumes duty, promises to secure Nigeria

THE new Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa has on Friday, 2 June 23, assumed  office as the 18th Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, AFN. 

In his remarks, during the handing and taking over ceremony held at the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, new Conference Room, express commitment to safeguard the Nigeria nation in line with the statutory responsibilities of the AFN.

According to him, “we promise to continue to improve on our mandate to maintain peace and tranquility in the country. We assure every Nigerian to feel safe as the Armed Forces of Nigeria will be up and doing and highly professional.”

Major General Musa further maintain that he will ensure a robust synergy among the Services, while prioritizing the welfare of AFN personnel.

Earlier in his remarks, the out going CDS, General Lucky Irabor said he was profoundly delighted to be handing over reign of the AFN to a  professional and battle tested colleague.

According to him, the President made the best and right choice by choosing Major General Musa to lead the AFN. 

General Irabor further added that President Bola Tinubu has pledged to lift the fortune of the Nigerian military, reassuring members of the AFN of a better future with the present administration.  

He also enjoined members of the AFN to redouble their efforts performing their constitutional roles of defending the nation.

The out going CDS who was appointed on 26 January, 2021 said a lot was achieved during his tenure. 

“The Armed Forces is far more better ” he said. He charged members of the  Armed Forces to remain loyal to constituted authority, noting that  democracy is the best form of government.

Maj. Gen. Musa was born on Christmas Day, 1967 in Sokoto. He attended both primary and Secondary Schools in Sokoto before proceeding to the Nigerian Defence Academy as member of the 38 Regular Course. His last appointment was commander infantry corp, he was  one time the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai in the North East, Commander Sector 3 Operation last hold, Commander Sector 3 Multi- national Task Force, lake Chad, Diractor of Training at the Nigerian Army Headquarters as well as the pioneer Executive Director of the Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches among many others. 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 19 June 2023  appointed Maj Gen Musa alongside the new Service Chiefs.
