GOV. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday announced the appointment of Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the newly-upgraded Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (EAUE) in Oyo.

Makinde made the announcement in Ibadan while receiving the reports of two committees set up on the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital and EAUE.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olaniyan was before his appointment a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Ibadan.

Makinde said he was appreciative of members of the committees for their efforts towards the betterment of education in the state.

“I promise to implement the committee’s recommendations in the two reports.

“I also pledge to do everything possible to ensure that the staff of the defunct Emmanuel Alayande College of Education who were not qualified for a University system do not become unemployed,” he said.

The governor also gave a hint that his government would create a directorate for tertiary healthcare in the Ministry of Health.

Earlier, the chairmen of the committees, Prof. Juwon Arotiba and Prof. Deji Omole, said they have done some work that would lead to a smooth running of the institutions.

”We have drawn up the vision, mission, academic curricular, master plan and conditions of service for the institutions in line with National Universities Commission (NUC) guidelines,” they said in separate remarks.

Also, Arotiba and Omole enjoined the governor not to deviate from his efforts to better the education sector in the state.(NAN)
