Man, 22, bags 6 months’ imprisonment for malicious damage

AN Ota Magistrates’Court in Ogun, on Tuesday, sentenced a 22-year-old man, Rabiu Hanat, to six months’ imprisonment for breaking into a house and damaging a window and burglary worth N600,000.

The Police charged Hanat, whose address was provided, with attempting to steam, malicious damage, burglary, to which he had pleaded guilty.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, sentenced the convict to six months’ imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict, and others still at large, committed the offences on Nov. 22, at Ilogbo, Ota.

Adaraloye said the convict and his accomplices broke into the house of the complainant, Abisoye Omolala, with the intention to steal.

He said the convict damaged the burglary, window and keys to the door of the house valued at N600,000.

Adaraloye added that the convict was caught by neighbours of the complainant while carrying out the offence and handed him over to the police.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 411(1)(2) and 516 of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun,2006. (NAN)
