Man, 22, in court over alleged threat to life

THE Police on Tuesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Sakiru Hammed, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly threatening a woman’s life.

The police charged Hammed with written threat to life under Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Victor Eruada, had told the court that Hammed committed the offence on Feb. 23, at 11a.m. on Seidu Ajibowu St., Ikeja.

Eruada alleged that the defendant sent a written threat to one Taiwo Idowu, the complainant, through phone number 08038554815 over an issue they had.

He said the defendant sent series of text messages threatening the complainant, trying to extort money from her and causing her to receive written demand without any reasonable cause.

“Hammed was, however, arrested after a thorough investigation,”Eruada said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 302 stipulates a 7-year jail term for written threat to life.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs J.A. Tanimola, granted the defendant bail in the sum N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 26 for mention. (NAN)
