Man, 24, in court for allegedly stealing tricycle

A 24-year-old man, Andrew Istifanus, on Monday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, over alleged theft of a tricycle valued at N1.2 million.
Istifanus, who resides at Ojota area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, said that Istifanus committed the offence on Jan. 15, at Ogudu Ori-oke in Ogudu Lagos.

Perezi alleged that the defendant stole a tricycle with registration number BDG 116 QG valued at N1.2 million property of Mrs Uyoyou Fabusiwa.
The prosecutor said, “Istifanus had approached Fabusiwa to allow him use her tricycle for commercial purposes for five days, and she obliged.

“After Istifanus had collected the tricycle, he later called the complainant saying that the tricycle had been stolen by some suspected thieves,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing for any convicted offender.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, Mrs O.M. Ajayi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum both of whom should have verified addresses.
Ajayi adjourned the case until March 11, for mention. (NAN)
