Man, 25, docked over N570,000 roofing sheets theft in Lagos

A 25-year-old man, Tobi Alani, on Tuesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with the theft of roofing sheets valued at N570,000.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to The charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that Alani committed the alleged offence between Feb. 22 and Feb. 28, at Idimu, Lagos.
He said that the defendant stole 387 square metres of roofing sheets, valued at N570, 000, belonging to the complainant, Mr Ahmed Ojuolape.
According to Aigbokhan, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which provides a penalty of three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi granted the defendant N500,000 bail and with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must be resident in the magisterial district and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned till April 26 for hearing.
