A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Isaac Joshua, at the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti, over illegal alleged possession of firearms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, remanded the defendant at the correctional centre, pending advice from the office of the Direct of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the state.
Anoma who did not take the plea of the defendant, adjourned the case until Sept.18 for mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Monica Ikebuilo, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 26 in Ado-Ekiti.
She alleged that the defendant, who was formerly a vigilante, fought with a commercial motorcyclist in the street.
The prosecutor said the defendant later went inside his room and brought out a kit belt, a dagger and a fabricated toy gun.
Ikebuilo added that the defendant brought the weapons to threaten the motorcyclist, and the people who gathered there arrested him and handed him over to the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 27(b) (i) of the Firearms Act, 2004.
She urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). (NAN)
