Man, 27, docked for allegedly stealing fire extinguisher

The police in Lagos State on Thursday dragged a 27-year-old man, Prince Otu, before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a fire extinguisher.

Otu is standing trial before Magistrate L .K J Layeni on a one-count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 5 at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.

Uche alleged that the defendant stole a red fire extinguisher from the premises of  LASU, but was arrested before he could sell it.

He said the offence contravened the provision of section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until June 7 for trial. (NAN)
