THE Police on Thursday, charged a 34-year-old defendant, Ibrahim Khalid, before a Kano Sharia Court, over alleged cheating and breach of trust.

Khalid, who resides at the Darmanawa area of Kano, is standing trial on a two-counts charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Wada, told the court that a complainant, Mr Salisu Muhammed, who also resides at Darmanawa, reported the case at the Fagge police station, on Jan. 6.

He said that the complainant allegedly transferred two million naira to the defendant’s account, to help him purchase palm oil in Yobe.

The prosecutor, alleged that the defendant, failed to purchase the said palm oil, but dishonestly converted the money to his personal use.

He further told the court that when the complainant asked for his money, the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation.

He said that efforts by the complainant to get his money back from the defendant, has proved abortive.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 202 and  206 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, ordered a remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, and adjourned the case until Feb. 10, for hearing. (NAN)
