A 37-year-old man, Pamilerin Adeyemo, on Thursday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly snatching a female handbag containing cash and cell phone.

The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 27, at about 1.30 p.m. at Oke-Iloro in Okitipupa.

Orogbemi said the defendant snatched a handbag containing cash and cell phone from the complainant, Adeola Ikuemelo, and was immediately apprehended by passersby.

Orogbemi said the offence contravaned Section 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty of the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government to the court registrar as part of the bail conditions.

Ojuola adjourned the case until July 6, for further hearing. (NAN)
