A 38-year-old man, Matthew Osawoye, on Friday appeared before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly resisting arrest and assaulting police officers.
Osawoye, a resident of No. 11, Olu-Ajayi St., Ipaja Ayobo, Lagos State, is standing trial on a three-court charge of conspiracy, resisting lawful arrest and assault.
The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Osawoye committed the offences on Sept. 20 at Alafia Bus Stop, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State.
Ekhueorohan alleged that Osawoye conspired with some others at large and assaulted two police inspectors – Bisi Adeniyi and Segun Joseph – attached to Orile Police Division.
He submitted that when Adeniyi and Joseph attempted to invite Osawoye to the division, he attacked them with planks and resisted arrest.
The alleged offences are punishable under Sections 187, 197 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Osawoye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs Sadiq Bello, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety who must show evidence of tax payment.
Bello adjourned the case until Oct. 27 for hearing. (NAN)
