Man, 40, docked over alleged electrical cable theft

A 40-year-old man, Ajakaye Taiwo, on Wednesday, appeared before Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing electrical cable valued at N150,000.

Taiwo, of unknown address, is facing a one count charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant allegedly  committed the offence on Oct.5 at about 6:00 a.m., in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant stole electrical cable valued at N150,000 belonging to one Olowolabe Oladeji.

Apata said that the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Olawumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case till Nov.5 for hearing.(NAN)
