A 42-year-old man, Joseph Ikegwu, on Thursday appeared in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.

The defendant is facing a three-count of defilement, unlawful touch of private part and assault.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Akpan Ikem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 17, at about 3.00 p.m. at Chemist Compound, Idale, Badagry area of Lagos.

Nkem alleged that the defendant who resides in the same compound with the victim’s parents, had sexual intercourse with the 12-year-old girl without her consent.

He said the victim told her parents that she was defiled by the defendant when the mother noticed the way she was walking.

He said the mother reported the matter at the police station leading to the arrest of the defendant.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 137, 261 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 21, for mention.
